چکیده

background: breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. prostate‑specifc antigen  (psa) is a marker of prostate gland malignancy, which has been considered in cases with breast cancer in recent years. the goal of this study was to determine total and free psa levels in cases with malignant and benign breast lesions. methods:   in  this case–control study, ninety women with histological proved malignant breast masses and 90 with benign breast masses were enrolled. total and free psa levels along with histological grade and conditions of vascular and perinural invasion, status of hormonal tumor receptors, immune‑histo‑chemistry markers  recorded  for all cases. total and  free psa  levels were assessed after treatment in cases with malignant masses. results: total and free psa levels were signifcantly higher in cases with malignant masses. the best cut‑off point  for  total psa  to differentiate benign and malignant masses was 0.31 with sensitivity and specifcity of 100%, 100% (area under the curve [auc] =1, p < 0.001) and the best cut‑off point for free psa to differentiate benign and malignant masses was 0.19 with sensitivity and specifcity of 100% and 100% (auc = 1, p < 0.001). after treatment, mean free psa level was signifcantly lower than free psa before treatment (0.23 ± 0.1 vs. 0.3 ± 0.08, p < 0.001). conclusions: serum psa level could be applied for differentiating benign and malignant breast masses.

Evaluation of a new 99mTc-Bombesin analog in differentiation of malignant from benign breast tumors

Introduction: The gastrin releasing peptide (GRP) receptor is over expressed in a variety of common human tumors. Radiolabeled bombesin analogues have exhibited high binding affinity for these receptors. The aim of this study was to assess the value of a new 99mTc-bombesin analog in the differentiation of malignant from benign breast tumors. Methods: 99mTc-bombesin scans ...

Correlation of Hormone Receptor Expression with Histologic Parameters in Benign and Malignant Breast Tumors

Background and Objective: Breast cancer is the commonest cancer of Indian women. Estrogen and Progesterone expression is seen in benign breast lesions and in breast carcinoma associated with good prognostic parameters and it correlates well with response to hormone therapy. Although a lot of studies have been conducted in the past on hormone receptor expression in breast cancer and few have cor...

Serum Levels of Cyfra 21 in Patients with Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors

Introduction: Cyfra 21 is a serum-soluble fragment of cytokeratin19. Increased Cyfra 21 serum levels and their benefit as a tumor marker have been shown in some malignancies. This study aimed to evaluate the serum levels of Cyfra 21 in patients with benign and malignant salivary gland tumors. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the serum level of Cyfra 21 in 44 patients with m...

Frequency of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) in benign and malignant tumors

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a widespread pathogen that is found in milk, saliva, urine, cervical secretions, and semen fluid. It is supposed that CMV is a risk factor for breast cancer. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of CMV among benign and malignant breast tumors. Paraffin embedded breast carcinoma (n=24) and fibroadenoma (n=24) samples were collected from Toos and Firoozgar...

MTA1 Expression in Benign and Malignant Salivary gland Tumors

Introduction: Salivary gland tumors (SGTs) are important parts of human neoplasms. The most common SGT is pleomorphic adenoma and the most common malignant SGTs are mucoepidermoid carcinoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). Metastasis-associated genes 1 (MTA1), a member of the nucleosome remodeling and histone deacetylation complex, is one newly discovered gene which recruits histone deacetyl...
